Awesome day

We´ve been to this fabulous hotel that´s located just one hour and a half from our home, an old farm from the year 1750, very very old.

The kids Camila and her friend Helena had a great time for there were some guys that took them for a short canoe trip , they could touch an owl and swim and play in the great lake that surrounds the farm.

Nature everywhere, this is what kids need these days...

And my Dad took good care of my baby boy who was enchanted by the pool.
Playing with mom´s bag and feeling the fresh air of the mountains, so good!

And the girls swam in the warm water pool and they got so tired at the end of the day that they fell asleep on our way home.
We really had a great time , going out sometimes feels really amazing!

It´s me, I´m PIPOCA, Camila´s new puppy, the newest member of the family! Now we are five , I´m very messy but very cute, too ;o)

I still cry when my folks go to sleep at night but in the morning I´m the first one to say hi to Mom jumping and playing whatever she´s doing.
Mom is still learning to love me for I am kind of messy girl and she prays everyday that I don´t become a "Marley" ,hehe!

The days of doing nothing

Summer Christmas season, this happens here in Brazil with hot rainy days, lots of cold grape juices with lots of ice, too!
This is a picture I took when Camila was swimming in the pool and I was sitting with baby César by the pool, it was such a beautiful day.

Inside : precious Christmas greetings that we received from my lovely friends from all over the world, thank you so much for taking your time to write and send it by mail, we really appreciate it!

Camila and her lovely puppy that will come to live with us in a few days! We are all so very excited for this new member of the family!

A beautiful gift

So, we are all excited and counting down the Christmas Day and so is our little Rudolph!

And baby César is growing strong , healthy and full of energy, day after day!

A day of celebration , Akemi turned 3 , this little bright , shiny , smiling girl!!
Happy Birthday , little Me ( that´s how we call her) , you are an amazing sweet girl!

By the way, you see Camila by her side? She is so very scared of chickens, hens and anything with feathers that she really tried hard to smile and look that everything was okay!

And of course we had yummy food, this is the sweets party table! All made by my sisters in law that are very talented.

At the end of the party, baby César fell asleep in dad´s arms and I guess he was having sweet baby dreams... like milky chocolate or bananas falling from the sky?

Well, this was our weekend on the most simple and lovely way .

The Rain and then the Sun!

A week of cloudy rainy days... But a good week because I´ve met old friends at the Christmas Craft Bazaar my dear friend Bia held in her studio full of good vibration , harmony and beautiful trees around the house.And of course, lots of handmade craft made by talented artists, pottery, paper goods , bags and fabric stuff.

Inside the Studio , Camila went with me and so did baby César.

And on Sunday the sun appeared to enrich our day spent with my Dad.
Baby César was very happy, odiitchan ( Grandpa) played with him and he laughed hysterically!

We went to São Roque and Camila took the chair lift with her Dad and admired the small town from the lift. " I hate heights so... no thank you, I´ll stay here to take a picture of you two."

I´ll be back in this space maybe next week, there are lots of things to be done here, right now . So, I´ll leave you now wishing you lots of happiness and joy in this Christmas season!

Welcome December!

These days I´ve been sewing some Christmas gifts and I wanted to share some pictures here with you because I really love this time of the year to meet old friends and to give thanks and also that feeling of renewal because of the coming of a new year.
This is my " treasure box" , a Japanese cookie box where I keep my ric racs and some old laces and each time I open it , well, I feel good!

It´s a sweet little gift I´m making.

Resting on the couch

Last Thursday at school a big boy gave a crash on Camila and she had her foot sprained and she had her foot bandaged in a cast, that was horrible and she cried a lot saying it was really hurting.

Since then she´s been staying at home, nestled in the couch and watching TV, playing games, reading books and enjoying this situation as she can.

We received my brother´s visit and he brought some video games and these delicious apple juice and fresh apples !
She loves apples and the tea she got from my dear friend Vanessa is also her favorite!

Meanwhile...
I go outside with my baby boy to look up the sky and see how life is full of surprises, good and bad... well, at least his sister is staying with us spending her time calmly and her pain is gone.

I´d like to thank everyone who called us and e-mailed us for her recovery. She is alright now and I guess on Monday she will go to school but it´s going to be another adventure for me, I´ll have to ask for wheelchair and an assistant will take her to the classroom... We´ll see ...

Four seasons in a day

I´m going crazy with this season called Spring ...
In the morning we wake up facing a chilly Autumn breeze until lunchtime when it gets so hot that we can swim in the pool and then again when it´s about 6 PM ( actually it would be 5PM) it´s getting cold again. So I can´t even plan what to wear tomorrow , I have to prepare every type of uniform to my daughter and we have winter blanket , bathing suits, coconut mug and lemon juice almost everyday!

When we´re outside, Camila loves swimming and baby boy looks at his big sister feeling the sweet breeze on his legs and when we are inside

we love reading and

laughing out loud!

eating yummy stuff with
good friends around.

Celebrating

Eleven years ago, in October the 28th we got married and this year is so special for us because we have a new member in our little family ; )) And we´ve been blessed for having great friends, a nice place to live with a wonderful view ( and wind as I wished so strongly...), a beautiful family and this time to celebrate. We are so greatful for everything that surrounds us and for your friendship , many of you, blog readers that became real friends.

We´ve celebrated eating what I love most: Paella

And for dessert I baked some banana cake that´s so very easy to make , I could bake it during my baby boy´s naptime and he doesn´t sleep that much...

And as a big present for myself, this book by Amanda Soule arrived just on time to celebrate this special occasion, I started reading it and it´s quite amazing how she writes about life and celebration . It´s a beautiful book with breathtaking pictures.

So now, I´ll get back to read my new book and I´ll leave you with our family´s picture taken yesterday before our dinner.

Hello! I hope you are doing well and you had a great weekend.
Yesterday we headed up to a little town called São Roque and we had a really great day together although we are all trying to forget we are sick! Last week was painful to all of us and finally we are getting better after lots of boxes of tissue paper, homeopathic medicine, visiting doctors and so on and so forth...
We deserved to have a great lunch, don´t you think?

Kids LOVE pasta!

And after lunch ...

Camila went to the chair lift with her dad because I am sooo scared of heights!And I had a baby to take care of.

Camila wanted some more adventure and climbed those high trees

And on our way back home we stopped to buy some pumpkin and there are some pretty visitors at the local market, so pretty!

Seven months

Hi there!I am sorry I´ve been away from this space for a while... it´s been quite busy but finally
I can show you some pictures of my baby boy who turned 7 months last week!

And I´ve been taking some pictures around my house and after a rainy day the plants became so exuberant that my heart is so happy and I wanted to share with you.

Inside home I love these little birds that decorate my fireplace

It´s not a collection but I have a few birds everywhere and this pretty one in the nest is one of my favorite.

Tomorrow , the 12th it´s Children´s Day here in our country so I have big plans to play and do many funny stuff with my kids and for now I´ll leave you with this smiling boy´s picture.

Finally we are entering Spring season which I do love because of the explosion of colors everywhere, the dark green turning into beautiful light green, bees and flowers, birds and seeds celebrating this new season, these little simple things make my day.

Happy 6 Months!

Hi everyone!
Last week little César completed 6 months and we celebrated with a small party at home, only the four of us.
I made some cupcakes using Sinhana´s pretty cupcake set that decorated our dinner table so wonderfully!

Some fingerfood...

Then I cooked some codfish and Camila made a little gift for her brother: a colorful mobile made with small bottle caps to hang on his crib.

And something from the nature to decorate our dinner table

And when Dad got back home we started our celebration and of course, baby had his delicious milk, on the table!

Vanessa sent me this beautiful candle holder made by her husband with recycled bin , isn´t it pretty?
Happy 6 months, baby César, we love you so so so so so much!!!

Crafty, messy!

This week I could finally finish some commission and I just have to send them , they are all
packed and ready to go!
And after this work at my studio, all I can see around me is a huge mess, I am so messy that I can´t believe my eyes!!
My little Miffy looks at all this horrible scene!

I just can´t show you the floor,haha!

But I ´ve got something to show you that it´s so great and useful when you don´t want to use buttons . Because I love buttons and I love keeping them in a cute storage bins =))

So here it is, directly from Japan, I brought some last year and it´s a velcro with a tape on the back and you just have to iron it ( no sewing needed!), isn´t it great?

I used and tested it for this bib I made for my little baby, it´s so fast and easy to attach that I am in love with it!!! And after washing, it´s still very clean and "glued", 100% approved!

Today we´re going out to send my commission and then we have all the weekend to spend doing whatever we want to, isnt´that exciting?

this is the day I can leave my baby at my Mom´s for about an hour and I can go to this great fruits and vegetables market where we call here "Sacolão" and it´s close to my mom´s house.
There are delightful colored fruits, delicious fresh vegetables and these are some of them I buy every week .

Asparagus ... don´t you just love them? Yumm... If you have some great recipe please let me know!

Cooking some Carrot Soup for supper , ideal for this winter season , maybe I´ll serve with some bread, how about that?

And this is the book I am in love with right now, I am not sure how it´s called in English but I think it´s Monet´s Table, actually I wanted another one but since I found this translated to Portuguese, I thought to myself, why not?

So, I just can tell that there are amazing photographs, stories and recipes...

As we were having a dinner with Monet...

Weekending

It´s raining again after a long time of sunny days and although I don´t like it , it feels we needed this fresh , clean air .
Walking around our home, Camila and her dad found out these wild blackberries, hidden in the woods, what a treasure! We don´t have to go far away to enjoy the simple things in life and it´s a fabulous thing to see the beauty in the baby´s eyes, too...

And we stayed home all the Saturday afternoon playing games, listening to the music , talking silly things , drinking some tea ...

Camila played with her wooden blocks drawing on the paper her own town and then constructing with the blocks on it and she really loves playing with them! And of course, everytime she is observed by her little brother.

I do love our afternoons at home...

How about pink and blue?

This cute tiny little bag came out of my sewing studio after my daughter brought some shells and seeds from the beach last weekend and she asked me if I could make something that could keep them safe from baby hands and dust.
I´ve made these for her some years ago and I didn´t realize how fun and easy it was! So in a few minutes I made this one , I wouldn´t have enough time ( baby´s nap, you never know when he will wake up!) so I wrote down on a piece of fabric the name of the beach and date when she picked up the shells with a permanent pen and stitched its fabric on the bag .
She will be surprised today when she comes back from school!

I guess I chose this fabric for the many things pink and blue that I am surrounded of..

New colors decorate my garden and sometimes it feels like we´re entering Spring

A small sculpture my girl made at her aunt´s pottery studio , the little canvas was painted some weeks ago and she brought from the beach where some native indians were making these tiny wooden animals, so cute!

This Dragonfly is sooo beautiful , I love it! ( actually it´s Camila´s) .

Last Sunday Camila picked some shells and stones and seeds at the beach, more nature inside our home!

Me and my Dad

My Dad lives in Japan and I always think how amazing it is to have all the technology to keep us connected so close using Skype or e-mails. I remember 20 years ago, it was so expensive to talk to someone living so far and when we spoke on the telephone we could listen our own voice and that was so boring... Nowadays I can talk to my Dad as he was on the same town, it´s so loud and clear !Amazing!!

We talk sometimes and he sends me images , photographs from there and I´d like to share one of them with you.

The one above is at my house and sometimes this cute little squirrel appears right in front of me when he gets down from the tree and the next photo is from my Dad and I love this one because of the Mt.Fuji which I think it ´s so beautiful . The clear water from the river and the blue sky is something I miss from his hometown. And I miss him too but it´s always so great to hear his voice on the phone.
Tomorrow my daily routine will change, my daughter´s going back to school , her piano lessons begins and I am pretty excited to pick her up at school again after a long time staying home.

It´s winter but we are so lucky that the sun is warm and we can spend these holidays under the blue sky and some lovely moments just the three of us.

It´s been such a wonderful experience and lots of learning to spend the day with a baby and a 7 year old girl. They can´t play together so, sometimes there are some difficulties that I must deal with but anyway my days have been very exciting!

He & She

It´s been a long time that I don´t come here to share with you my days but I can tell you , it´s been quite a busy time down here!

Our little girl has become a big sister and she has been very patient with her little brother who doesn´t know how to communicate but crying . We are learning this new language and so is she! For two months she acted as an adult but suddenly she couldn´t stand it anymore and she cried a lot and she expressed her true feelings about this new boy who is taking a lot of her Mom´s time. And I really miss my moments with her and only with her... And I wonder how will I manage this from now on...

But most of the time she is like this, very happy, full of joy and always playing and running and doing something around our home and I love looking at her with my little one in my arms.

I wish one day she will understand how much I love them both... I really do!!

Yesterday was my 41st birthday!!!

My brother offered me a wonderful barbecue lunch and we had a great time together, me and my family and after lunch we went to meet some old friends, good old friends...

I´ve been spending these Autumn days at home, cooking a lot, organizing and taking care of my little almost 2 month baby.

And outside I see the beautiful nature offering lots of amazing fruits , I wish I had more time to pick them all up and maybe make some jam and give to my friends... Well, not this time.

This is the view from my window, I can hear two or three blue birds ( I don´t know their names) playing or trying to get some juicy bite from the fruits, I like that!

Almost everyday there´s a blue sky that I wanted to take pictures so I can look at them at night and I can remember how great was this day...

The coconut tree is full of these little fruits and squirrels and birds share the food in the morning, peacefully...

And this little boy is growing day after day and I know I will miss every minute of these days...

Hi everyone, I am back after a couple weeks and here is Cesar, our new baby boy! He arrived on March 6th and we are at home, learning lots of new things again and Camila has been fantastic as a big sister helping us on whatever she can.

Here we are surrounded by diapers , phone calls, gifts and cryings !!!

The Autumn season is almost here and I can feel that the breeze is chilly and the sun is shy in the afternoons when I look out of the window as I nurse my baby...

Summer Days

I am sorry for not coming here for a while, it´s been quite busy and... hot! These days have been really hot but I can´t complain, I like Summer!!!

We had a visitor last week in our garden: a big sized lizard!!!
And our weekend was spent at the seaside, on my brother´s boat, eating fruits and barbecue...
Oh, by the way, today it´s my brother´s birthday so I want to wish him all the good things in life, health and love, always!!!

We had such a good time with our family spending some quiet time, admiring the nature around us.

And now I want to show you how big is my belly , I am 8 months pregnant!!

joy of a new life

Each and every day my belly is growing!!! I had forgotten how it was , the only thing that bothers me now is at sleeping time , I´ve got no position to do so...

Anyways... I am so very excited and happy for this little boy that´s growing here inside and I´ve been making some things for him.

I went to my old books and magazines to take a look and I found out this pretty little banner that I made in 2 hours ( the time I spend choosing fabrics are the longest!) and finally I came up with this blue one!! It´s by Alicia Paulson ´s book and I really adore her and her creations!
Some friends had made beautiful handmade things for my baby and I am keeping all of these treasures in a small old fashioned trunk...

These onesies came from my Mom , pretty, hum? I like the pretty little alligators!

I guess I stopped sewing before going to Japan last month and now that I started making these banners I feel centered, something that keeps me healthy and focused... I needed that! It´s my second pregnancy but all those fears and doubts that comes with motherhood are back again...Plus , this strange feeling of the possibility of loving two children, will I love this one as much as I love my little girl???

I think it´s just a matter of time to get all the answers , right?

We went to visit a new place , a great tip from my blogger friend Shi , thank you dear friend! From our house it´s about 45 minutes by car and we were surprised for the good food, lots of things for kids to do like poney riding, a lake, mini zoo and playground. The next time we will take Camila ( today she went out to the beach with my brother).
This first picture is a traditional Brazilian food, it was crunchy and sooo delicious!! Polenta frita , Pastel de Carne and Mandioquinha

For dessert I chose these yummies... Pineapple, strawberry and Romeu and Juliet sweet which is very typical here.

Rearranging moments

It´s Summer here and it´s getting warmer each day with lots of rain, too... But rain is good, look at these green colors outside in our garden,

and the pink flowers , so gorgeous!

the very red acerola fruits that we can make delicious fresh juice from them! I just love looking at the contrast of green and red!

This week , since Camila is on school holidays, staying at home doing lots of things like organizing baby´s bedroom with me, cooking , playing inside and (when it´s not raining) outside the house, I thought she needed a good place to study this year.

So , we rearranged the top of the stairs where there´s a mezanino and now it looks like this, with a blue desk with drawers , a good chair and lots of space for her studying time.

She loved her new little studying corner and everyday she writes her diary up here. Maybe we need some bookcase , hmmm, maybe we´ll a quick visit at the flea market somewhere...

By the meantime, while Camila is staying at her uncle´s house I took a time to rearrange this coffee corner in the kitchen. It holds everything I need: a coffee machine that we LOVE, capsules, milk , coffee cups and it´s all set!

We are back home, in Brazil under a lot of rain but fresh, comfortable days in our cozy home eating "eda mame" , soy beans that we bought at the farmer´s market this Sunday.

It´s raining a lot but we found a small corner where we could make our private barbecue , some fish, shrimp and meat.

Messy corner, I would say, but full of happiness and joy to start this new year.

And we had room service because we were so tired!!!

And here we are finally at the Narita Airport, leaving this beloved country that we learned a lot about!!!

Japan , unforgettable memories

Here we are back to this corner to show you what we have done in Japan!
I have met old friends, my daughter made new ones and we are all delighted by so many wonderful memories we are making here.
This is Camila and her new friend Mayumi who took great care of her while visiting Tokyo Disney, she enjoyed Mayumi`s company for her kindness and her patience and she really will remember this day to tell everybody when she gets back home.

Back in Tokyo with my parents, we went to visit some very touristic places near our hotel and there were colorful stores everywhere , we walked under a very cold weather, especially for us, tropical creatures, this was killing!!!

Amazing KIMONO fabrics!!

Hotel amenities included foot massage!!! So perfect after a whole day walking!

My dad took us to this Cafeteria that I used to go when I lived in Japan almost 12 years ago , it hasn´t changed , the same old smell of coffee and delicious food in a very small cozy house.

They serve delicious desserts!

Madonna Pomodoro is the name of this small cafeteria and after having tea and cake my brother called us , he was in town with his wife and we went to have dinner at this fantastic sushi house called Kappa Sushi.

Kids love this restaurant for its non stop service of many dishes coming in front of them and they can pick anything they want.
The price is good and the food... yummy if you like Sushi and other Japanese food, this is the place!

Now we are in Kyoto city, we asked for the taxi driver to take us to a short sightseeing and he showed us fantastic spots like these...

I felt I was back in time, centuries ago for the way people keep these old places so beautiful , clean and open for us, tourists to visit .

Two Brazilian in Japan

After leaving the hot weather of Brazil, 11 hours later we arrived at Zurich airport and it was so beautiful outside with real white Christmas landscape. We stayed for about 2 hours to get into the aircraft again and face more 11, almost 12 hours in it. I was getting tired but this little girl ...

... Swiss Air offered so many cute amenities for her that she was amazed and pleased all the way to Japan! Look at this cute little stuffed airplane !

and also this happy face eating and having fun !

This is just the beginning so, please join us in this trip to JAPAN!!

My parents are Japanese but I confess that sometimes it feels like I am really very Brazilian for all the different culture I find here in Japan not only for the chopsticks or the green tea they drink but for the way they wear, walk, talk, act ...

My dad who lives in Japan now picked us up at the train station of Hamamatsu which is a beautiful city , far from Tokyo but still surrounded by skyscrapers and lots of cars and bicycles and people everywhere.

Then we finally arrived at his home, we will stay for two weeks. Are you ready, guys?

Two days later we decided to go to Kiosato, a highland resort at an altitude of 1300 meters at the northwestern part of Yamanashi near the border of Nagano.

Have I ever told you about my postcard swap?
OK, I must say that it´s so entertaining and fun for many reasons and since I love handwriting this was something that I always wanted to do, swapping postcards with people all over the world!

I receive 4 to 6 postcards each month because I am a beginner in this Postcrossing group and I can send randomly to someone in the planet the same quantity .
You can also take a peek on POSTCROSSING website and check out how interesting it is!!

The great thing is that I can list all my preferences and then I receive the most interesting postcards according to it , like these ones that I really love!

This is a very cheap and easy way to do good things like writing to someone who is ill like this one where many postcrossers got in!

My little one loves to check out the mail box and when she gets one we sit together and I read and show her the stamp, the photograph and we look at the map to see the location from where it came from.

This is absolutely cute and beautiful, isn´t it?
A very good friend of mine made it ( patiently) by herself to my little baby who is a BOY!!! By the time she was making it, she didn´t know so she chose pretty colors that could be used by a girl or a boy. And it turned out so beautiful! Thank you , CELIA!

And... our home was decorated by pumpkins and orange colors here and there for the Halloween

We love Halloween parties but unfortunately we do not celebrate that much in our country... But the spirit of this season is everywhere in our home!!!

C. and her Dad went out for an expedition on the sea with a group and they had the best time of their lives...

All these images thrilled them and it´s really amazing how close they get , they come to these waters and they stay at this area for the warmer water. The female whales come to give birth and nurse their whale calf.
No more words to say, just to watch and contemplate...

By the seashore

Here we are again by the seashore and a girl that shouts out loud as she finally finds out all the amazing blue sea ~ sky right in front of her!

Exploring nature...

The sand is warm and cozy and it makes us feel like staying for a long time , just to forget the hours, the watch, the cell phone... just contemplate...

If you look around you will see how much nature has to tell us.
Suddenly we met some local people with a plastic trash bag in hands collecting plastic waste brought from the sea ( not a treasure, at all! ) but I believe that each of us can make something to turn it a wonderful place to live in the future, don´t you?

In the afternoon we went to the dunes, Mama didn´t climb up all those high sand mountain but daughter and father did and they took this pictures for you!

They met some cute little creature that played with them...

And on our way back home we saw this ♥ shaped lake , I think Lori ( times five) would love this!

See you sooner than soon! Tomorrow is whale watching day!!! I´m excited to see what will emerge from the waters...

We decided to get some days off and we´re spending our days at the beach in a very beautiful , quiet and almost desert place hidden somewhere in this planet...

They say that many whales come by this time of the year and we are excited to watch them and meanwhile we are just watching the hours flying by...

It´s quite chilly even it´s Spring , this season sounds like Fall but I like it anyway!

We left home under the rain but then when we got here, the rays of sun appeared to us

A weekend of gifts, prayer and love

This past weekend:

My husband´s cousin became Reverend Deacon of the Anglican Church and a beautiful ceremony was held in a beautiful chapel .

Many important people of the Anglican Church came to celebrate this ceremony...

And the new Reverend got flowers from Camila!

After the ceremony we had a wonderful and delicious tea time with all the visitors that came from other cities and the party was very entertaining!
Cute little people showed up!

And then on Monday... more good things happened!!!

Jacqueline from So cute it hurts had sent to me these amazing things that she sells on her cute Etsy Shop
Many kinds of Tea, so full of cute details, amazing material and the entire package was so incredibly wrapped that I HAD to take pictures !

I will keep them all because I feel that she makes every little thing with so much love and I really admire this talented crafty sweet lady! Thank you so much, Jacqueline!!!

And at night the surprise kept coming !!

My sweet little daughter made this pincushion for me with recycled material, wrapped in a paper she draw herself and of course, a pink ribbon for Mom!! Thank you , darling!!!

The simple everyday bag -Tutorial

Hi, everyone! I´ve been making some fun stuff in my studio and I wanted to share with you this simple tutorial for a simple everyday bag.

Material:

Short handle - 10cm x 7cm (1 piece)
Long handle - 35cm x 7 cm ( 1 piece)
Cute printed fabric ( apples) - 13 x 25cm ( 1 piece)
Green fabric - 18 x 25cm ( 2 pieces)
Green fabric for lining - 25 x 45cm ( 1 piece)
1 metal ring

Let´s sew the two green pieces to the apple fabric piece , this is gonna be the outer bag.

It´s gonna look like this, press.

Fold it in half, right on the center of the apple fabric and sew like the next step picture...

Pin and repeat for the lining fabric

Open them and leave it like this

Now, you' re gonna sew the bottom of the bag so pay attention for the printed fabric design, you will not want it upside down!

For the lining fabric, you´ll do the same but there is a little space of 5cm to leave open

like this:

Boxing corners : Mark 3cm x 3cm in all 4 sides of the bottom - make this on both the outer bag and the lining.

Opening the corners you will have this:

Sew them

Turn it and it will look like this, gorgeous!!!

Now, let´s sew both bags right sides together - the outer bag goes inside the lining

For safety, pin all around and then, sew.

Sew carefully

From that space you left open ( lining) bring the outer bag out.

Very simple!

Don´t forget to sew that open space, you can sew by hand or machine.

After pressed, it´s gonna look like this!

Now let´s make the short handle
Take the 10 x 7cm fabric, fold and press like this:

... and this

and fold again

Sew all the way, ooops, this doesn´t look so good, I´m sorry, I should practice a little bit more...

Repeat the same process for the long handle

Short handle will hold this metal ring

Place it right on the center of the apple fabric, sew the short handle on it

The same should be done to the long handle on the other side

Your everyday bag is complete!!!

Family, home and more

These days of the end of winter have been very hot and the rain seems to be so far to fall... We ´ve been out of rain for almost two months and our garden needs some special care like above.

After all these garden watering she got all her clothes wet and she needed a real bath!

September for us means Mulberry picking season! Yesterday Camila went with her Dad and her grandma to do so and they got home , so happy , pink hands and a basket full of fresh mulberries!

Today I made some mulberry jam, yummy!!!

This weekend we had visitors in our home, our nephew grows organic tomatoes and these were great to make tomato sauce. Our kitchen was crowded and very busy this weekend!!! He bought to us some organic eggs , too.

These days have been very unusual ...
I had a funeral, a wedding , family people staying at our home , lots of talking and cooking ! Our dinner table had more people than the usual THREE ( or the almost FOUR) and the gathering , the talking , the blessing of being all together around the table was such a treasured moment for me. I felt a little bit of bliss here and there in every moment of these days.

Crazy creatures

We had some fun making this stuffed Sock Monsters with Camila´s odd socks and she enjoyed picking buttons up , choosing the felt for the eyes and creating many shapes to make a new friend!
She brought to me from her US trip, a very interesting book : Sewing for children by Emma Hardy and after looking at all chapters she wanted me to make these Sock Monsters and the good point is that it didn´t take us 30 minutes to make one!

This one was her creation, she took the piece that I ´ve cut to make the first monster and she made this one as a puppet.

This one looks like a flying bunny!

And all the family monster we made in this sunny Sunday afternoon!

Coming back home

My mom just got back home from a long trip to Japan ( my Dad stayed there) and then we decided to make a welcome back home lunch and here are some pictures of what were served like the pork ribs my brother Lucas made, they were delicious!

And I made some salad with lots of palm hearts and organic eggs...

My brother also cooked this wonderful tasty beef stew with some Japanese spices he ´s brought from his last trip. He really knows what to buy at supermarkets!

On Monday my daughter arrived from her trip to Disneyland ( Orlando ) with her uncle and her aunts and she was so very happy that I could see in her brilliant eyes! She has so many stories to tell, so many things to say and she couldn´t even sleep because she had a lot to talk!!!

Outside this particular bunch of flowers , white orchids are everyday morning blessing when we open our window, it´s magnificent and I don´t get tired of looking at them!

This is a tiny bromelia...

Winter blue sky almost everyday but very, very cold!

And this is a gift my Dad sent to me , an owl family that rings with the wind, so beautiful and all iron made, it´s a typical Japanese gift and I really love it, I hung it inside my house because it´s so windy these days that it would drive me crazy!!! So when we arrive home and we open the front door it rings, with its gentle sound and it brings some kind of peace at home!
And after a week out of home , Camila missed her piano lessons and here she is, trying to remember what Grandma had taught to her! Practice, practice...

Here comes a new baby!

It´s official and I am here to share with you the news!!!

A new baby will arrive in March , next year and we are all so very excited about it!

I´ve been feeling some illness and distemper of pregnancy and I´m trying to stay quiet at home, drinking herb teas and reading a lot.

My daughter Camila is traveling with her uncle and aunts to Disneyland and she´s very happy about everything that´s happening around here and there and as I write this post I guess she is taking photos with Minnie or Pooh...

Weekending

I found myself completely in need of dropping everything and head to a trip for a far place, somewhere that we could stay the three of us together enjoying this beautiful winter season that doesn´t feel so cold. Days are warm and nights are chilly and the sky of this place called Minas is amazingly blue... The town´s called São Lourenço and its water is sold in the whole country.

After 5 hours driving we arrived to the hotel and in the morning , all sort of bread, cake and juice on the breakfast table waiting for us was simply a delight! Plus, the typical jellies, cheese bread and Minas cheese were so very yummy!

And now, heading to the old Steam Locomotive small trip! This is what I really love, TRAINS!

This one goes to a small village called Soledade de Minas taking tourist passengers for an interesting trip, some musicians sing in the train cars and they sell beverage and there are lots of fun with every kind of people!

At Soledade : farmer´s market , lots of fruits, vegetables...

And back to São Lourenço , you can see this bottle of water written on it, the famous water that we drank a lot at restaurants, at the Parque das Águas to refresh ourselves...

Contemporâneo : a very good restaurant where you can taste many kind of food, from Japanese food, Italian or this typical local trout that sounded very tasty , Edu ate it.

And for dessert: Petit Gateau, very yummy and ... sweet!

I do so love trains and the history behind them, the magic of the whistle that we can hear from very far and its particular smell of the smoke...

And I´m glad we could share this moment with our little one ...

Pic Nic Day

Looking outside the window, the sky was clear and blue inviting us for a delightful day spent in the garden that meant no TV and no chores for a while, today! Okay , before anything I had started my day using the washing machine, cooking breakfast, making this and that ...

She started playing on the ground with her cooking set , making lots of food to her stuffed animals and then we had this idea of having lunch with Pic Nic food, very simple but a Pic Nic is fun, easy, entertaining and feeling the warmth of the sun on the skin , looking at the leaves falling on the water and the touch of the breeze on our faces sounded irresistible!

:: what was served:

some organic fruit , "onigiri" ( which is a Japanese traditional food ) that we made ourselves and chicken nugets, just because we love them!!

This pic nic blanket was the first thing I made to this house when we were still moving into it and finally today we could use it properly and we bought this Homemade Apple Cake at the local organic farmer´s market that is also very yummy, with iced tea, it was delicious!

We ended up the Pic Nic moment laughing and talking and eating a lot!!! After that, some football and frisbee playing to keep our bodies working out!!

Is there a perfect day?

We had a wonderful time at a little farm near our house , Camila loved riding the horse, breathing some fresh air and visiting a typical old country house which was very interesting.

Here she is, standing in front of the house that was located right after the entrance and then an employee takes us , visitors to know all the animals, activities and things to do .

... milking a cow was an exciting experience for an urban raised kid! Look her happiness...

The days have been warm and the nights very cold ...
I´ve been spending some time sewing, organizing my studio stuff but I can´t show you my little corner because it´s still messy!

Meanwhile...

among fabrics, mess, yarn, ribbons and buttons, oh, yes, buttons that you already know that I treasure, I took some time making these button rings to myself, oh, by the way, I love rings, too!

The comfort & the blessing of food

This is my new toy that Edu brought to me some weeks ago and finally last weekend I had the chance to use it and here I´ll show you the result of this simple but handful "toy" that makes...

CHURROS !!! Would you like to try some?

She is testing my sample!!! And she approves and eats some more. Inside I put "doce de leite" , it´s common here in Brazil, it tastes like a condensed milk but very creamy and yummy!!

And then I had to try this Jamie Oliver´s Apple Pie recipe that was my little girl´s delight ( mostly before eating it) , I think kids love THIS part of making the dough, don´t they? Especially when you add lots of butter...

As we measure each ingredient and we mix them I feel the magic of cooking together, talking about everything, silly things, laughing , the way it involves ourselves into a nice talk and cleaning ( by the way, lots of cleaning ), it makes me feel the comfort of being there and lots of more good times to come ahead.

And then the green apples, yummy!!! Of course she tried these , too!!!

And, tada ,it baked exactly how I imagined , so perfect and that makes me feel so good!

Our kitchen and the living room had this delicious scent in the air, apple pie smells so good! This is a true blessing, to have food on the table, beyond that, with a helping hand that turned this food so sweet.

And my little helper , my particular "Oompa Loompa" painting my new table-to -be that will be used in the studio. This old wooden board was under our tatami at our former house and now we don´t use it anymore because I wanted a sofa to sit on! I guess I´m getting old...

Later on I´ll post some pictures of this table in the studio but for now, I leave to you this beautiful orchid , real treasure of the nature that grew right on our palm tree, so exuberant ...

Well, I am grateful for all of these blessings: the food, the life in family , what nature offers to us, friends,

I have a good friend in a far place called Salvador (Bahia state) and she is a lovely and kind person that I will always cherish . The first time we met I still owned a pottery studio and she came to learn about glazes and the first thing I offered her was a cup of tea! She was absolutely polite and she drank the tea but then , later on she told me she hated any kind of tea, see? What we do when we try to be gentle? We drink things we hate, we try to be polite!!!And since then we always laugh about this episode !

And this beautiful hanging doll ( traditional Bahia women dress long white dress with lots of lace , necklaces and a turban on their head) was made by my dear friend Carmen , isn´t it so darling?

She owns a pottery studio in Salvador and if you would like to know the beautiful spot where she is located , please take a look at Atelier Terra e Cor ( she has an English version) and also the wonderful creative and inspiring objects she makes.

This funny, pretty elephant made by clay is a long time friend . I bought when I visited Milan in Italy many years ago.

These wooden fruits were made by local artisans of Minas Gerais , when I traveled last month with my parents.
I love the brilliant colors and the handmade touch , very simple and creative!

Now, I have to tell you something about Jamie Oliver . I´ve just got the new book ( in Portuguese) from this amazing chef that cooks in a simple way and that´s what I like, simple, basic but still delicious food! And as you know, I am a big big huge fan of the United States and he went to America and wrote about the interesting , classic american food and I have plans, lists of the recipes I´ve found here!

The photo was taken yesterday and it was rainy, dark afternoon and the light was terrible, i am so sorry for this but I HAD to post this! It´s in the kitchen table where I started having lots of inspiration reading this book.

Apple pie: I do love apple pies and when I watch those american cartoons I can almost smell and feel the taste of this amazing dessert!!! The original apple pie is English but the American people transformed it to the one of the symbols of the country.

Beautiful pictures are in this book, too and this little girl´s photograph , isn´t she so cute?
And look what´s she´s about to eat!!! yummy... Chocolate pie!

Unfortunately I don´t know what´s the name in English of most of the food included in this book so I am seriously thinking about buying an English version .

Eggs, I LOVE EGGS and this omelet sounds very yummy and so easy to make. I think this is gonna be my lunch!

Well, a "part" of it because the rest is so very messy, a big shame I can´t post it here!!

I have some flower pots and I like to cook looking at them and here, I don´t forget to water them! Fruits are always welcome and we love bananas and apples .

Strawberry and tangerine gelatine for my husband , these are zero carbs , for his diet... I like the colors but not the taste of them...

I do prefer Apple Pie!

It´s World Cup season and to celebrate this exciting moment I made this green + yellow + blue ( Brazilian flag ) to decorate our living room and for those who want to make one of this, take a look at this tutorial , it´s written in Portuguese but it´s quite easy because there are great photos to follow. Try it, enjoy it!!!

Weekend pics

Visiting unique shops around neighborhood is sometimes very interesting like these material that are so different from what I am used to work with.

Long time ago I used to work with metal, pretending I was Jennifer Beals on" Flashdance "!!!! Welding machine, mask, electrodes, smoke, this used to be my father´s work but then suddenly there was I making art with metal and I enjoyed a lot that time. I made delicate bromelias, banana trees and orchids but that was a really heavy and dirty work and after I found out fabrics and the sewing machine , well, my life became complete!

This kind of shop was a delight for my eyes , old materials that could be recycled and turned into art, I just had to be creative and lots of project would pop up on my sketchbook...

But nowadays sewing became really my passion and these things are now my husband´s hobby! And that´s why I went to this shop this morning. Good luck , my dear !!!

The day was so warm, we had a birthday party to go and on our way to the party we saw this beautiful monument at Ibirapuera Park, it´s called Bandeiras Monument (artist: Victor Brecheret)

I could write and show you a post only about São Paulo´s beautiful spots , maybe someday I will take some interesting photographs around town ... You know, Brazil is an immense country and i would love to let you know a little bit about the culture , interesting stories , parks and animals and artists that live here...

So much to tell...

I´ve been away from this space since a long time and the reason was an awful fever , headache and the entire body feeling bad. Finally I am away from the bed!

There were days of comfort coming from my dear partner, husband and Dad of my daughter ( who was in the same situation) that made our days better , our home was always warm and he took care of us so amazingly, thank you!

These are pictures of some sewing I´ve made some days ago , this one with the Matrioska design was a gift to a very close friend to keep her wet tissue package inside. I loved making it, I embroidered, used some ric racs, so much fun!

These colors attracted me for the beauty, the simplicity and the combination, I enjoyed making this one also.

Last Sunday´s report: Coral Sonia ( my Mom´s Choir Group) at the Recital of 18 years was a great success, congratulations Mom!!! And thank you for letting me be part of this wonderful old ladies group, it´s a big honor for me. I love you all!!!!

Clara, my sister in law was the pianist and she was amazing!

At the end, everybody ( including the audience) could sing together, Japanese old songs that they reminded from the deep of their hearts, I guess those were the songs they used to listen when they were kids, in Japan, with their family... it was beautiful, some of them cried and were very touched.
Music has universal language and this moment showed me that´s so true.

Corners of my home - Camila´s room

I´ve been trying to post these photos since Wednesday and I´ve been facing some trouble due to the lack of high speed internet connection home so I could post only these 3 pictures...

Anyway... here we go, welcome to Camila´s room, it´s small but cozy and she loves playing on the floor with her stuffed animals, wooden blocks, drawing and attaching everything she makes on the wardrobe ( and sometimes I recycle them and take them off,hehe!)

Flea Market

This post is just to share with you some simple joy we had this Saturday at our condominium where a Flea Market was held at the social area, actually our first Flea Market!!!

We were very excited because Camila took all of her old clothes, toys and books to sell and I took some books , too.

The market was just right beside the kids park and the kids had lots of fun while Moms were selling their stuff... hey, come back here and help your Mom!!!

It was a Saturday under the warmth of the autumn sun and among new friends that we made, nothing could be more perfect than this!

Today I am quite sleepy after all the joy of Saturday, we got home relieved for we ´ve sold almost everything ( yay!!!) and Camila went to the toy store to buy something she wanted a long time ago and yesterday she made enough money to buy it ( and still got some change) and she played all night long.

I can feel the signs of Autumn which I adore.
Inside : the smell of wood, fireplace, hot chocolate and muffins
Outside: Camila playing on the ground, leaves, delightful new colors of the earth

A friend of mine asked me to make some baby bibs and I finally finished them!

Actually she asked me to make 2 but then, I got so inspired looking around and trying to choose the fabrics that I ended up making 4 more . I was looking for a simple tutorial and found out this cute blog and then she gave us the tip of this website that´s very easy ( although it´s in Japanese , you can understand it).

My constant companion: this pincushion that I made couple years ago... and....

Corners of my home

Hi everyone! Today I decided to share with you some of the corners of my home that I see everyday when I wake up.

The first place I go in the morning is the living room where I can see how is the day, sunny or rainy, windy ... And then I look to my left side and out of the window I can see this huge fruits hanging on not so huge tree which I haven´t found out what it is exactly but I tell you, it´s sweet like a Ponkan but too big!!!

Here is my TV /DVD, book corner where I spend most of the time when I am resting and relaxing. And on the couch I sew and drink my everyday cup of coffee.

Then my little girl wakes up on her pajamas and she comes to say good morning holding three or four stuffed animals, normally the husky dog, the dolphin, the sea lion and another dog...

And now the flowers I ´ve got on my birthday and their perfume is all over the house, I adore them!
Flowers are so beautiful and for me they look like Mandalas, so perfect!

Look at those petals, their perfection, the color and texture...

and how they make a small corner so beautiful and full of energy attracting the sunlight.

I love this wooden plate that a Sister from our church gave us when we got married. And I wish you the same, Faith, Hope and Love to all of you this week!

The Mad Hatter Tea Party that my little one and I made to celebrate my birthday.

May, 15th was my birthday and now I left my 39 years... I am 40 now!!!
Wow, I never thought it would come but I still remember my 18 years as if it was yesterday ...

Thank you for my lovely friends , blogger friends that called me or came up to say Hi! on the phone, at my house , e-mails and phone messages, I love you all and you mean so much to me!

All those presents, gifts and lovely cards, flowers that fills every corner of my house with beautiful colors and amazing scents, I don´t know how to express my gratitude.

Have a lovely , sunny week, I am so thrilled at this moment , I mean these days; that I wanted to share my feelings with you all.

I just wanted to show you some pictures of our way home from the trip I took with my parents to Minas Gerais. Coffee is well known and there are many farmers like this one, on the road where they created a coffee shop, amazing! We found lots of products and we couldn´t resist having some "mug" of coffee with milk!

There was also a shop with local handcrafted objects like these

pretty dolls and outside...

my Dad in front of the garden, and, of course, as a good Japanese person he always carries his point and shoot digital camera wherever he goes!

And back home, Mom gives gifts , souvenirs from Minas, Camila loved the Dolphin wooden toy that came from my Dad´s friend, Vicente.

And back to the present day: A little sewing moment ...

Camila´s school friend birthday, I made this kid´s apron with a cupcake on it and also made a small set with a wooden spoon, measuring spoons , Cookie Recipe for kids and three cookie cutters with animal design. I hope she likes it...

And tomorrow is Mother´s Day so I wish you all a lovely celebration day and thanks for taking your time here, reading my posts!!! You mean a lot to me!!!

9 o´clock in the morning, driving up to Minas and heading directly to the town I was born, so exciting to get back to a place that I left a long time ago, how I miss the blue sky and the gentle people and the simple life , friends, old friends of my dad...

First stop: The house we used to live in Lavras city , a small town that´s growing up faster now
I was 2 years old when I left to go to live in São Paulo but my dad stayed there for more 13 years and every holiday I got back to spend my days with my dad , the best memories I have from my childhood: go fishing , playing with my dogs and playing with kites with my brother, looking up to the sky and counting the stars were one of the hundreds of outside playing I remember so dearly!

Vicente is my dad´s good old friend who is a real artist, makes wonderful wooden toys like this train and...
here it is , his working corner with some of his creations , aren´t they cute? the dolphins, the cubes and the puzzle

Having lots and lots of conversation ...

And finally, Wednesday is over, I´m at the hotel now in this room and my parents are beside , yes we are separate because I go to sleep late after writing the blog, playing my farm stuff, reading e-mails and so on and so forth...

Day 2 - A short trip to Tiradentes, Bichinho and Prados in Minas Gerais State which I strongly recommend to you if you come to Brazil or especially if you live here!!!

Listed as Brazil´s cultural heritage, Tiradentes city is one of the Portuguese Vilas of Brazil´s XVIII century Gold Cycle

Entrance to artist Oscar Araripe´s studio which I like a lot for his colorful paintings and brilliant ideas!

Windows, don´t you just love them? And these were so eye catching for the lace curtains hung inside and the little white cross hanging on the door

And old door knob and door lock, the background green color is so very beautiful

Bichinho is a smaller villa near Tiradentes and there are hundreds of art studios like Oficina de Agosto and other shops like this , shown above.

Another curious place to visit : Museu do Automóvel da Estrada Real, we could feel like in the time machine, looking at old beautiful cars , Bel Air 1956, Buick Phaeton 1928, Ford, Chevrolet and many more.

Amazing culinary tradition like this trooper´s food that´s so very typical in this town and it´s definitely on my list of the favorites!!!

And the day is over now, after visiting and taking pictures of wonderful scenes , art, metal and wooden stuff, my heart is full of joy, being a couple of days away from home feels so good , I can hear my thoughts, put some organization in my mind and then I feel more centered but... I also miss my dear little girl that stayed with my brother and the precious companionship of my husband. I wish I could talk to him right now .

Go fishing with this little girl that gets all excited when she catches one little fish ( that´s really hard to be patient when fishing, you know...)

go for a walk with the loved ones, just feeling the atmosphere, fresh breeze , green leaves under our feet...

spread on the table all the colors you have in your art corner and let her make her own art... As the day was so "fishy", she came up with this wooden door stop to paint on, with lots of colors!!!

Don´t you just love looking at these joyful colors?!!!!!

Oh, yes, I really do, it makes me smile!

To be present is to make it happen when they ask for it!

You just have to keep everything close to you, easy to pick up and voilá!!

This was definately a treasured day, being with my parents , my daughter and my husband, savoring this ordinary day turned into a very precious one.

Obsession or Inspiration?

This week I had a very few moment of sewing and that really drives me crazy because I have to do something to feel relaxed and motivated and crafting is so much fun, you know!
Button and Stitch: Supercute ways to use your button stash by Kristen Rask was a gift from my brother that came back from the United States and I have to confess, this book was on my table and the other time in my bag and it wouldn´t stop staring at me!
So I had to make a project from it that really inspired me and it turned to an obsession for one night and one morning.

I started picking the fabric scraps, some drawings that came up from my head , I dumped out the jar of buttons on the sewing table and the project started .
Bird themed project, because I have seen so many beautiful projects in the books and real birds flying near my house that I wanted to work on this theme.

I have to tell a little story: When I got pregnant the first thing I wanted to do was start making a journal notebook to tell how things transformed my life and since then I collected special letters and cards from friends, concert tickets and medical results, everything is glued and written in details in this notebook but the cover was a little damaged and I was really sad about that.

The project I decided to make was the book cover and it turned out like this!

And I will cherish every detail of the cover because I could put my favorite buttons on it and some fabrics that my friends gave to me , oh, I really love it!!!

This is going to be my daughter´s extra special gift when she grows up because I still have a lot to fill in the blank pages inside .

On the next week I will show you one more book that I am completely mad about and excited, by Cath Kidston , a book full of beautiful projects that´s been tempting me since its arrival ( another gift , now from my husband that made me this mail surprise! thank you so much!) and I am choosing some interesting project to show to you all!

Familiar sights

Walking down the road , near my house I could notice the beautiful contrast of the green background of Summer and signs of Fall popping out right in front of my eyes!! Yes, Fall, it´s almost here and I love that.
These days have been really busy and I just wanted some minutes just to stop, breath and feel the present, this very moment and to know what surrounds me and to see the beauty outside.
It´s normal that I only post good things because the opposite you can watch on TV news and newspapers everywhere... But sometimes I get really tired and I feel that I need a new perspective to keep going . I have a really blessed life and family that I treasure every little moment so I will keep posting interesting pictures and write down kind words so it can make a difference in your lives, nothing to make you feel down.

I´d sit there and I would read a good book but then... some crazy ducks appeared from nowhere and I got scared!!! I ran away...

It´s raining buttons! tutorial

As you already know, I am a button collector and these days I ´ve been thinking how to keep my favorite ones in a special place ... So I created this It´s Raining Buttons Cloud so I can hang it on my studio´s window and the sunlight shines on the colorful buttons that makes me smile and brings good feelings.
So, how about trying to make one of this?
Material:

Felt - 30 cm x 30 cm - white
Embroidery floss - blue
Buttons - from your collection, vintage, new, use what you have
Stuffing
Needles for embroidery floss
Scissors
Cloud template ( draw and cut the paper) - draw yourself or ask a child, they make the best clouds ever!

Are you ready?
Cut out the cloud design on your felt , two pieces, pick up your best buttons, I took my favorite vintage buttons so I can have them all together hanging on my window and I can look at them all the time I ´m working in the studio.

Sew them on one piece of felt displaying two together or only one, it´s up to you to create here, this part, like others made me so happy!

In my project I put 3 strings of button drops falling from the cloud and I wanted two to be longer than the middle one that is shorter.
Here, I am showing you the first place to sew the button drops string.
Cut an embroidery floss, sew it to fix it and after that, start putting the buttons leaving some space from each other.

Using the needle pass the floss once through the button hole but if you desire, you may turn back and do it twice . Do it for all the buttons.

It will look like this.

This is how it will look with the 3 strings hanging on together.

It´s time to sew the hanging floss on the top of the two parts sewn together as shown above.

Is it well fixed? good!
Start sewing both parts together, and before you reach the end , about 5cm , leave a space so you can fill it with the stuffing.

I confess, I need some " Embroidery for Dummies" book for I can´t stitch anything but the running stitch , I gotta improve my skills...
So, when you finish it, it´s time for stuffing!

Fill the cloud the way you like, I prefer very soft so I didn´t fill too much.

Finish sewing and...
Here it is! This is my version for Candy Colors Drop, very colorful and fun!

This one is the Ocean Cloud, it´s very simple, monotone, only blue buttons that bring refreshing breeze...

I hope you enjoyed making it.

You may use is as a sachet or as a pincushion, give them to friends, family and I am sure they will love it!

An afternoon with Ana Moraes

Look at this gorgeous birdies looking each other!!!! Isn´t it so cute?

So, this weekend I took these two little girls to a workshop at Panacéia store ( that looks more like a gallery for me ) , then they met this wonderful artist Ana Moraes who was giving a workshop for kids...

... and when we arrived the table was set with lots and lots of recycled material, caps, buttons, plastic bottles, wire, pins, some tools and a beautiful garden outside to welcome all the curious kids !

They made a flower sculpture and the result? Amazing! Colorful buttons, plastic pieces and letters transformed into art, I loved it and the kids were so happy!

My dear friends from the Choir group and my sister in law´s mother who invited us to a delightful lunchtime at the Golf Club where we spent some great time talking , laughing and eating ...
These "bento bags" I made ( except the blue string one) to Camila to take her snack to school every day. I wanted to make something related to each day of the week and Wednesday´s is missing, it´s Fruit Day and I haven´t made it but this week I ´ll try to. A fabric with some fruit on it...

But since I haven´t made it, I pack the fruit ( here the grape box) and I put it inside the bento bag with a small fabric napkin or towel. My girl enjoys it when I add some note , it´s always a surprise for her.

Sunday afternoon, a little craft moment making mosaic box. It´s easy, it´s cute and it´s so fast to make it ! A friend of mine sells these Mosaic Kits and Camila is a huge fan , this is the second piece she´s working on and when she was a toddler she used to make a paper mosaic on pen cases and photo frames that were also really fun!

Actually, there´s no age limit to have fun, isn´t it?

Espaço Catavento is a unique place , a science museum that also kids will be excited,there are many hands-on activities that give visitors the chance to experiment themselves scientific principles in a fun, educational way.

It´s located inside an old beautiful architectural construction that once was the City Hall and there are many sections, a brilliant museum of science, art and human perception .

This is a piece of meteor that she touched and as she said, she touched something from the space!

The Knick Knack Exchange package has just arrived and I am so glad with all these sweet lovely things Danielle sent to me!
She loves birds and the little cute pendant is adorable! The photographs are so artistic that I have already put on my inspiration board in my studio with the key card that she wrote to me.

And the earrings are adorable!!!

She also sent me some fantastic vintage buttons that now are part of my button collection and talking about buttons I wanted to show you some of them . I can´t explain why I like them so much but just looking at them or choosing them for some work is something that makes me feel so happy...

When I need some inspiration I open my box of buttons, spread them all on an old tray and I start picking them , one by one, take a look at the details, the color and its design

Red, yellow, blue, gray, green... Aren´t they just lovely?

Celebrating...

Crafting for the birthday decoration...

Baking some bread... These aren´t for the birthday party but for our coffee break in the "crafternoon"!

It´s always a good day to celebrate, isn´t it? And when it´s about a 6 years old girl,we dedicate our time to make some cuties and try to focus on this very special moment of this life .
On Saturday we´ve made the party decoration, we baked tiny breads and cupcakes . cut some cupcake toppers, bought some food for the Sunday family meeting .

Then on Sunday , signs of summer, hot weather, sunny and blue sky in the morning , they all came to the outside lunch and there we served barbecue , they all brought some tasty food and we had delicious salads, pork, Portuguese bread, Strogonoff by Mom, oniguiri as well and a beautiful and yummy Strawberry Cake!!!

Happy Birthday again my little girl!!

Mornings of joy

These days of almost Autumn sounds so weird: hot summer days, cold evenings, rainy nights like I´ve never seen before... Actually everything is new in this town since we moved in the last September so everyday is a new beginning with lots of surprises.

The most ordinary details becomes something interesting like the sunlight or the starry night or the strange feeling of loneliness down here. Friends are far now, the internet world seems more friendly and warmer and I really miss my days in the city so spending my time reading e-mails , crafting , sewing and making plans have fulfilled this lack of contacting real people.

Kids are different... mine is always busy with her toys and legos like this one , a beautiful farm that she got from her uncle and aunt on her birthday and since the beginning , the "making of " with her Dad was so much fun!

And now that´s all set she plays in the morning , before going to school... And many other gifts that she got from her friends on her birthday like alphabet games, math games, painting kits , mosaic kits, stuffed animals , books and so on and so forth, it´s a never ending party!!! This morning she woke up and I just hugged her to tell her Happy Birthday. So, how or when did it happen that you turned out six ???
It´s a magical age isn´t it, now they can read, they can play lots of fun imaginative games, they are more creative and they know how to comunicate each other but they have the innocence and the fantasy in their minds, I think I´m loving this six year old girl!

Happy Birthday my sweet little girl, wishing you all your hopes and dreams will come true and an AMAZING year ahead!!! Love you!!!

Good old memories

As I walked into the living room I could smell the sweet cookies mom was baking .
She used to make them not for special moments but when she had time to stay home , she was a piano teacher and she worked a lot that time, when I was 5 or 6.
Last week I went to my parents house and my dad gave me this old kitchen scale that reminds me those good old times... Nowadays mom has a new and good one, smaller and lighter. Vintage stuff is what I love and this one means so much to me that now I have it on my kitchen window sill.
And when I look at it, I still can smell the cookies...

Collections...
It may look an ordinary eraser, anyway they are special to me because I like the touch and this salmon colored one looks so... vintage!
The Unbrella ( yes, with N!!!) came from Japan a looong time ago and I don´t know why I have been keeping it, I just like it!
The white one is new and I have to confess, it´s something obsessive , I bought a box with 20 of them!!! don´t ask me why...

Inside the kitchen drawer I have these very useful kitchen towels and I love them for their details, RED details , the embroidered ones that my mother in law made to me, I use them every day so I must treat them well. The more you use them they get better!

Oh, I even don´t know how to draw a decent circle but it doesn´t matter, I love collecting pastel crayons, pencils, watercolour pencils, I adore the metal pencil cases as I open it I can smell those special crayon perfume.

Am I the only one with these obsessions or are you the kind that collect something weird or ordinary or different?
These were just a few to name because I ´ve got lots of collections and maybe I´ll post here any other day...

until then, I hope you enjoy your weekend and try to look around, maybe you haven´t noticed you have collected rocks, bookmarks, old recipes, perfume boxes, whatever... it´s an interesting thing to do, to share with us, with your son or just to yourself.

This cute bag with the puppy design was inspired here and here. She can carry her precious books , pencase and her favorite stuffed elephant seal in it.
Playing outside, feeling the fresh breeze on our face and walking barefoot feeling the grass, the cold stone floor under our feet , picking fruits from the trees, that´s what we´ve done yesterday and there´s nothing sweeter than these moments, oh, yes, there is. The fruits ( jaboticabas) are very sweet.

What makes me happy

It´s a mystery and at the same time a magical thing that sewing means to me because it turns my very moment so peaceful and tender while I think only about what I am really doing, feeling the texture of the fabric or admiring the color of the thread. I wish I had more time to do this...

These portable kids playing set are really cool and they will be sent to a retailer and if I have a chance I´ll make more but for now, these are good!

Ready to be packed and maybe in a few days they´ll be in some pretty little ones hands that will play and draw and have a joyful day!

Carnival holidays :: to rest, to look up and to dream...

Moments of our Sunday

Hi! I missed you guys, I am sorry I didn´t come here for days, it´s been really busy these couple weeks , my girl going to a new school and also everything was "so new" to me, the morning routine , the new road to take her to school, new teacher and so on and so forth.

In many parts of the world today is Valentine´s Day but not down here , unfortunately, I should say... I do feel from the bottom of my heart that I would send all those lovely handmade cards to lots of people I know , I would make each of them and they would be different one from another because it would be very personal. But then I think it would be impossible for me to finish all of them! That would take me hours, days, weeks to make them all... But what really matters are the feeling and all the thoughts I have about all these (blogland & flesh )friends and family members.

Celebrating the date or not, it´s Carnival in the whole country and we have four days and a half of holidays when people travel, go to the beach because it´s very hot in this season and others go to see the Carnival Parade ( Rio and São Paulo are very famous ) but we always use to stay at home because the city gets quiet, less people on the streets and no traffic, that´s a dream!

We had lots of friends sharing food and lots of laugh around our home, at the barbecue corner ,
sitting under the coconut tree drinking beer , eating fruits and ice creams , telling stories , listening to the kids ( and adults too) that were happily playing ball and swimming in the pool, doing absolutely nothing... it has been a wonderful break since Saturday...

This is an interesting exercise and I´ve been making lists on and on. Here I´ll post 10 things that I´m in love right now. Not necessarily in that order.
1. Early in the morning the first sunlight coming inside the sewing studio... so inspiring!

2. Looking around my home and finding things I´ve sewn years ago... still in use

3. Celebrating birthdays!
This one? For the 3 years old " Foquinha" the little elephant seal . Happy Birthday little one!

4. My new red shoes, so comfortable... They take me everywhere, I wish they had wings!

5. Taking pictures here and there in a desperate way of practicing...

6. Ladybugs, aren´t they so cute?

7. Celebrating life!

8. Baking muffins , eating them with a cup of coffee...

9. Stormy weather, wind, raindrops that turn into...

10. a new landscape , day after day ... Isn´t life so amazing?
