Creative corner

A friend of mine asked me to make some baby bibs and I finally finished them!

Actually she asked me to make 2 but then, I got so inspired looking around and trying to choose the fabrics that I ended up making 4 more . I was looking for a simple tutorial and found out this cute blog and then she gave us the tip of this website that´s very easy ( although it´s in Japanese , you can understand it).

My constant companion: this pincushion that I made couple years ago... and....

this little girl of mine, striking a pose holding the huge orange from the garden!

Have a sweet Wednesday!!!

An afternoon with Ana Moraes

Look at this gorgeous birdies looking each other!!!! Isn´t it so cute?

So, this weekend I took these two little girls to a workshop at Panacéia store ( that looks more like a gallery for me ) , then they met this wonderful artist Ana Moraes who was giving a workshop for kids...

... and when we arrived the table was set with lots and lots of recycled material, caps, buttons, plastic bottles, wire, pins, some tools and a beautiful garden outside to welcome all the curious kids !

They made a flower sculpture and the result? Amazing! Colorful buttons, plastic pieces and letters transformed into art, I loved it and the kids were so happy!

You can take a look at Ana´s wonderful work clicking here : Ana Moraes Gallery

She is such a clever, inspiring artist and also a very gentle person, thank you Ana!

Wishing you a week full of flowers , inspiration and happy days!

Favorite Finds

I´d like to show you some cute things I brought from the United States trip like these buttons and "pois" ribbons which I really adore!

This little vintage metal plate was a great find in Monterrey and the store was selling the same old canned sardines that became famous . My dad bought a lot of them to give as gifts, such a nice gift, though!

Many bookstores with lots of SALES , I found this box of Easy to make Felt Teddies that enchanted me! They are really cute and I guess this week I´ll make them!

Fabrics: can´t live without them! oh, and scissors and buttons and stamps...

At my sewing studio with my new calendar with everyday sewing projects in it, it´s the greatest idea , ever! And my old embroidered hoop and some work in progress fabrics, already cut and ready to be finished.

I couldn´t resist!

It´s really a hot day and I couldn´t almost sleep at night and staying at home today was too much so we decided having lunch out , Itu was the destination.
We had a super delightful food at this restaurant we use to go , they serve excelent meat and this is the perfect getaway when we want to eat out of town and stay close to the nature.

Hmmmm... I think it´s something in the air that brings happiness, hope and inspiration looking at these pictures...

We got home, Camila was out with her uncle and aunt , I felt kind of doing something with my fabrics, had some ideas in my mind , sketched some projects and I came out to this Notebook Hanging Pocket.

I am definitely terrible with drawings, see the squares???? Well, I just had to have some idea of the project so it worked out!

I love this fabric design and its pretty colors! I used it as the pocket fabric, then added some cotton lace and finished with this vintage navy blue button.

This is exactly what I needed, sometimes I don´t have the pen and paper to write down some quick notes found on the internet then this pretty accessible pocket is quite perfect, don´t you think?

The weight of the notebook holds firmly the hanging pocket and here you see an African pencil from Gana and a very pretty sketch book that my friend , potter and artist gave to me. Thank you Sossô!!!

And maybe this one will work out for kids , too... in their case: a lollipop , a favorite stuffed toy made by mom and some candies...

For Dad: glasses, remote control and the inseparable Iphone...

Well, until then, it´s MINE!!!!

Enjoy the rest of the weekend and have a lovely week!

Home, sweet home

The "delicious" kid´s menu in the flight going home. Well, that´s what she said , believe it or not!

And she played , slept and listened to the music... oh, how about this mood of hers??? I was so tired but I couldn´t get any sleep in the plane.
Actually when I got home I slept from time to time in the afternoon and more sleeping tight at night.
Although I miss all the adventures we had, there´s nothing like home, right?
===================================================================

And the day after getting home, she stayed in her Pjs until 2 PM !
We decided doing some crafting because we felt this need of doing something "creative" and messy!

Take a look at this fantastic art kit of Matrioska she got as a gift from her aunt who went to Russia last month.

It´s wood turned and you can paint them with your favorite colors... it was just a little hard to read and understand it!

It´s very easy and fun!
No reading required.

Actually it´s not that messy! Just be careful, introspective, be in a quiet room and...

Here they are!
Have them dried carefully and put them inside.
So much fun ! The first crafting time of the new year!

And I hope you all have plenty of time for crafting, sewing, knitting , reading or whatever your heart wants, it´s a wonderful feeling!!!!

Have a very inspiring week and thank you for reading my posts from the US, I had learned so much from visiting, observing, admiring and knowing other countries' culture and I also have experienced that respecting nature is the best thing you can do for the next generation, they do deserve that, don´t they?

Helping hand

Are you ready ? It´s all set with craft materials on the table...

Drawing on the plate with toothpick , using your imagination you can draw anything!

Use your favorite color and paint the plate you´ve drawn and stamp on the bag

Here they are!

This is another idea she came out! Collage with origami papers

This little girl with tiny hands has helped me at home like this moment of creativity when we decided to decorate the Christmas paper bags to be given in a few days at the event I´m planning at Bia´s studio.

I had nothing in mind, couldn´t think about anything because of the thousands of duties, chores and things in my mind so I asked my kid to think about something to decorate the bags that should be easy, fast and fun!

So she came with this idea of stamping with these styrofoam plates that always acumulate in the trash can. She learned at school and now she wanted to show me at home and voilá, it worked!

I finally knew that children has a different way of thinking, they are practical, full of creativity and imagination and I´m so very glad for having this helping hand right in front of me!

Okay, now we have work to do, lots of bags and bags and bags to stamp! Bye for now and have a wonderful , inspiring Wednesday!

The sun has arrived in my sewing studio!

I´m back, sewing and having thousands of ideas that I´ll have to write down on my notebook, try to organize a little before I start but today I´ve sewn something that later on I´ll post here for you! And it´s yellow as you can see here in the sewing machine picture!

I just can´t survive without them!

This sewing machine... Oh, it has been working for years and years, I really love and respect it!!
I love flowers of every kind, these are fake but I like them a lot and they decorate my window .

At the entrance of the studio, some embroidery framed work, a clock ( not working!) and a pretty key hanger I bought some years ago .

My reformed lampshade with scraps!
More scraps of fabric , now I sewed them on the curtain, it became more colorful!

Isn´t that wonderful ? Finally after days of grey skies, windy days the sun has come to our place and brought together some inspiration for me to take some fabrics, choose colors and take photographs , too!

I´m happy now.

Have a sunny day!

Reading and sewing

These past few days I´ve been reading and sewing and reading on and on ... The quilt I´ve been sewing is ready now ( and I intend to post a photograph later on) and this book: Family Meals - Creating traditions in the kitchen by Maria Helm Siskey ( mine, I bought online at Amazon.com) is a great book for everyone who loves cooking with all the family and friends, to be in the kitchen together to make something delicious, simple and easy...

Here you see the quilt in progress, for Camila´s new bed! And the page of the salad I´ve made for my lunch on Friday.

This is the result, I had to make some changes in the recipe because I didn´t have them all but still, it was fresh, colorful and tasteful! And there´s more in this delicious book, the photographs are awesome and my daughter enjoys looking at them and asks me about the recipe of each page because it´s really entertaining and interesting.

Today it´s warm and sunny, the way I like my day. I´m enjoying my Sunday, how about you?

Have a wonderful week !

Sewing afternoon: PJ

After making this PJ´s bag to my daughter I thought I also should have done some pretty PJ for her.
And on Monday patchwork class we came out for this idea and Celia and Ilza told me how to make one in a very simple way , for dummies like me!! And it worked out so smoothly that everyone could really make it!
We picked up one PJ pants ( a ready one ) and then Celia made the pattern and then I did the sewing part.
The best part is the fabric: flannel for a cozy touch, it feels so good and guess what... My little one really appreciated this one!!!
The thing is that now I must make two more for she wears everyday and in rainy days, I can´t get this one dried!
To add a girly touch , we put this Butterfly on a ready made sweater , made some embroidery with her favorite color: navy blue and tadá!!

Sunday Morning Colors

The most beautiful weather in the whole world was today and the sky was so blue that I could stare for hours looking up... But we had so much to do down here that I stopped looking at the beauty of this Autumn.

This morning energy was so comforting that my little one painted with pink, blue and orange colors this little cardboard box that I would almost throw in the recycle center . She had lots of fun under the Autumn sun, quiet and taking her time...

Making books

Last night after dinner we had some great time together, Dad didn´t go to jeep meeting for he had to work at home and we stayed near him ( as company and noise makers!!!) and I played the teacher and Camila my little student.

We decided to make books! So great , lots of fun! Believe me, kids love making their own books.

We listened to The Very Hungry Caterpillar with Eric Carle reading the book, it´s a special edition I bought that has a CD. Then we went straight to the art room, Elephant Club, and I cut some papers, put 2 holes in each one to bind at the end of the book making ( inspired by Susan G. K, thank you Susan , your free projects and templates are the best!)

Book 1 - She wrote her name, each page has a letter of her name and some other words that she tried to write on with the initial.

Book 2 - A story about us and Manu, her friend. The title is PARQUE ( Park)

Book 3 - A book about her favorite things: colors, place, teacher, numbers...

And she went to sleep so happy and full of new ideas!

Have a wonderful Friday and weekend. We have to plan our Mother´s Day from now on...
